Stepping Heavenward

As I have mentioned before, my favorite blog is Money Saving Mom. One of my new free treats that I am currently enjoying because of Money Saving Mom, is audio books and e-books.

Recently, Crystal posted about Stepping Heavenward by E. Prentiss. It is recorded on Librivox, and is entirely free to read! This is my first time to use Librivox. Apparently, it is a website of free audio books. I'll definitely be checking it out more in the future.

I LOVE this book. It is fiction, written as a girl's diary. It stretches from when she is, (I believe,) 16 years old, and on into her adult years as a married woman with children. I think this is a book that every Christian lady could greatly benefit from reading. I have found it so incredibly convicting. I also found it comforting and encouraging. Great Christian literature tends to do all that and more, in my opinion. I keep thinking, as I listen, "Why have I not read this before?!"

Since losing my 3 babies, I have been drawn to anything that addresses grief, this book does so, in a wonderful, thoughtful, real way.

I don't buy or collect books, and I have very strict rules about which books I keep. That being said, I am planning to order a copy of Stepping Heavenward, just as soon as I can! I hope to reread it again and again! I also hope to read the biography of E. Prentiss someday!

Confessions of a Natural Wannabe-and a Fantastic Giveaway!

I am progressively exchanging many things in our home for more and more natural choices. (On the other hand, many very unnatural things-edible and otherwise, are proving to be vices that are lingering around.)

It doesn't help that my husband tends to bring things into the house, What's wrong with him? Does he think that he lives here,or something?! :-) The things that he brings into the house, tends to not be of the natural persuasion.

For example, I was excited that the laundry detergent was getting low. This would be a great time to try soap nuts or Shaklee. Instead, my annoyingly wonderful husband, also noticed that the detergent was about out. He came bring home a jumbo container after work. Seriously, must he be so attentive and helpful?! :-)

Anyway, as you can see, going green and more natural is probably going to be a life long pursuit for us! Sigh...

I learned about a wonderful giveaway on another blog. I would LOVE to win this giveaway. It would kick us years ahead in my goals of cooking and eating more naturally.

If I were you, I would head over there right now, and jump through all the hoops, to get as many entries as possible. I am. In fact, I can almost hear Little Monkey's naptime ticking away! :-( Oh, well. It would be sooo worth it, if I would actually win! :-)

I'm Alive! Yes, I am!

I have actually been told that my posts have been missed. I'm not going to divulge who said it, but I have also missed, here we are!

It is soooo hot out! Seriously, I honestly can't think of much else right now! So, here's my list of a few things that are giving me a few moments of cool in my day! (Hey, I don't know about you, but I'll take all the suggestions that I can get right now!) Seriously. Any healthy, inexpensive, simple ideas? Send them my way - as soon as possible!

Here goes:
1. A kiddie pool! I am always amazed by just how cooling it is to simply stick your feet in cool water! Absolutely amazing! Little Monkey isn't so sure about actually sitting in the pool yet. She prefers stepping in and out of it, instead. She really hates having a wet diaper-even if it's a swimmie diaper! Oh, well, at least this mommy is getting a bit of relief from the heat.

At the end of the day, the water goes on my tomatoes and peppers, so I love that we're not "wasting" water. (Although, in this heat, I would be r-e-a-l-l-y hesitant to call ANY pool water a waste! :-) I didn't put a link, but ours is a cheapy from the dollar store. It was $8, and not inflatable. I didn't want to chance it springing a leak. It's just the hard plastic kind, but it works for what we need it for!

2. Yoplait Yogurt! Oh my, these are amazing! Seriously. I am not the biggest yogurt fan, but right now, these are great ice cream substitutes! My favorite is the Whips Key lime flavor! Yum, yum! Such a great cool taste.

I plan to pick up a bunch next time we are at the store. I want to try it frozen too! Other great flavors would be cherry pomegranete and pina colado-so summery! Oh, and right now, Target has an online coupon for Yoplait!

3. A hose with a mist setting. Ah! This is fabulous. Little Monkey loves to stand and be misted with this, and I love it too. It is definitely worth the extra money to get this! I like that it's cooling, but definitely doesn't use much water! First of all, it is a very fine mist, so not only is it perfect for toddlers, and young children, but it also saves water over a sprinkler or hose going full blast. Also, by my controlling it, I can turn it on, and off as needed. Love it!

Ok, and now that I listed my favorite things to stay cool, I want to mention 2 things that are not good. Mango or cucumber slices in a pitcher of water. I read that in a magazine recently. It also mentioned lemon or lime. That is good, yes, but the mango and cucumber water tasted very similar to me-and neither one tasted good. (Now, if you're like me, you'll have to try it for yourself, but at least I warned you!)

Bath Toy Bliss

We love browsing our Wal-mart's clearance aisle. Usually, we walk away empty handed, but every once in a while, we find a treasure. This is what we found last time.
Voila! A bath toy storage solution! It's a mesh bag that is held up by strong suction cups. Little Monkey loves to play with the suction cups during her baths, and I just toss the whole bag in the water with her, and she loves getting her stuff out of the bag herself.

It may look simple, but I love it when I find the perfect solution to a storage or organizing problem. The problem was not having a container that would let the toys completely drain. I did quickly learn that there has to be holes in the BOTTOM of the container, not just the sides. That was a quick fix, though.

The real problem was where to store the container so that it didn't have to be moved out of the tub everytime an adult wanted to take a bath or shower. I didn't want water all over the bathroom floor, closet floor, or bathroom cabinets.

This net keeps the toys out of our way when we want to shower. It also allows the toys to completely drain, but not all over the bathroom. Aah, the title says it all! Bliss!

If you don't have one of these, and have soppy toys taking over your bathroom, definitely consider ordering one pronto! Or you could check Wal-mart, I think the one we found was marked down half price to $2.50 from $5.00. I think that there was only one at our Wal-mart. If there were more, I'd go back, and pick up a few for gifts. No parent should have to wait 19 months to get one of these!

(The above link, is my Amazon associate referral link.)

Encouraging Thoughts

Have you had a stressful morning? Maybe it didn't go exactly the way you had planned? That's what happened to me! I know I am not the only one! Here are some thoughts that I have floating around inside my head.

~“Promise me you'll always remember: You're braver than you believe, and stronger than you seem, and smarter than you think." ~ Christopher Robin to Pooh”

~"Be kind, for everyone you meet is fighting a hard battle." -Plato

~"Be kinder than necessary." ~James M. Barrie

This song encouraged me so much, when I went to a Ladies' Retreat in Tennessee. It had been one short month since losing my third baby. This song helped me, and I would listen to it over and over again over the next few years. It means a lot to me, and I hope that it will encourage some of you!

Right now, I can think of MANY dear friends who are fighting battles that would absolutely break your heart, if I took the time to share their stories with you! Chances are that you have your own battles raging, even as you are reading this. I hope that some of these little thoughts, and especially this incredible song will encourage you, and give you strength for the next step-whatever that might be for you!

I LOVE Money Saving Mom!

If I had to pick one blog that is my all time, absolute favorite for many, many reasons, it would have to be Money Saving Mom. Crystal has saved my family soooo much money, and just added some fun nonessentials at the same time.

For example, she posted about Starbucks giving away free coffee or tea on Earth Day, if you brought in your own cup. Between a trip for groceries, and going to a Good Friday service, let's just say I got plenty of Passion Tea that day! We've gotten free coffee on Tax Day, also compliments of Starbucks, free Krispy Kreme donuts on Donut Day, and I'm sure there are tons of other fun things like that, that I simply can't remember. I've also gotten many free magazine subscriptions such as Martha Stewart Living, Woman's Day, Whole Living, and so many more-all because she posted about the opportunities on her blog! Oh, and we enjoyed half price Frappucinos this week too! Believe me, the things that I have mentioned are not even the tip of the iceberg!

She has such down to earth advice, does all the hardwork for me when it comes to couponing, lets me know about great deals, samples, freebies, and money making opportunities that I would have totally never known about if it were not for her blog! She says where to get the best coupons, and where to use them, (matching them up with sales, and using store coupons etc.)

Beyond all that, she is teaching me to hone my Proverbs 31 skills! She is definitely making me think about little ways that I will be able to contribute financially for my family while staying at home. She is definitely teaching me how to be more wise in how I spend money.

If you haven't checked out her website, you definitely need too. There is sooo much more to it than what I mentioned. She is a big blogger, so I imagine that most of you already follow her, but just in case...I thought I'd write about her!
